About this pattern: This is a pattern for a baby blanket specifically designed to be used in a car seat. It is small to reduce bulk and has a hole for buckling the seat. It is designed to work in any yarn, with any gauge. Print out this page, and fill in all of the blanks using your own gauge numbers.
Yarn Selection: Because this is for a baby, softness is important. Choose a lofty, soft yarn. Your yarn should also be washable. Babies can be messy! Also, consider the climate and time of year. If it is a warm climate, cotton may be better. For cooler climates, use wool. Approximate yardages: Sport Weight - 350 yds; Worsted Weight - 200 yds
Total Size: 20" by 24"
Gauge: Make a four-inch gauge swatch in stockinette and in garter. Why both? Row gauge is different between the two. Consider your yarn and needles. You want this blanket to be soft and not too stiff. If you don't like the fabric with the first swatch, change your needle size up or down until you find the ideal size for your yarn. You will be using your row gauge to calculate the number of rows in each section.
Enter your gauge numbers below:
Stockinette: Stitches per Inch = _____, we'll call this number A
Rows per Inch = _____, we'll call this one B
Garter: Stitches per Inch = _____, this one will be C
Rows per Inch = _____, and this one will be D.
Now that you have all these numbers, time to start on the blanket.
